Property Manager’s Session

Organizations Change and People Transition… Learn the Skills to help Manage Transition

This will be an interactive session designed to address how people respond to change according to their preferred communication and decision making styles (Extended D.I.S.C.). We will also look at change through the lens of “change management” guru John Kotter’s 8 Step Change management process via a fun interactive skit “Our Iceberg is Melting”. Participants will leave with a better understanding of how they and others embrace or resist change and how to assist themselves and their
companies in dealing with the uncertainties of change.

Presenter: Melissa Augusto, certified Extended D.I.S.C. expert and ten year member of the Sandler Training Milton team.

Concurrent Sessions

  • I Love it When a Mediation Comes Together
  • Dispute resolution is important to the fiscally-responsible operation of a condominium corporation, but for many, it can be a “black box”. When should you consider mediation and how can you proceed if you would like to propose it? What does each party need to ensure the process is effective, efficient and fair? Should you incorporate mediation into your bylaws? If so, should it be mandatory or subject to mutual agreement? Join us for our panel discussion “I love It When a Mediation Comes
Together” to get answers to these and other questions.

  • If I had a Hammer: Choosing the Right Contractor
  • Enjoy an interactive conversation between a Property Manager, a Lawyer and Contractors exploring how a relationship with a Contractor can be mutually beneficial…or a
complete disaster. Using real world examples, this will be a unique opportunity to understand how every board should approach a new relationship with a Contractor; how
to tell the difference between the good the bad and the ugly; how to get the best value for your budget with a strategic, long-term approach; and how to avoid the pitfalls of selecting the wrong service provider for your property. Improving your selection process will result in a better product or service and a better night’s sleep for everyone
    involved!

  • Unleashed: Pets vs People
  • In this Session, speakers with firsthand experience in dealing with pets in condominiums will talk about the various issues that can come into play, and how property managers, Boards, and unit owners can deal with those issues. We will discuss pet issues from a property manager’s perspective, including problems that may arise and how to prevent or address those problems. We will also examine the legal enforcement options when pet problems cannot be resolved through communication
and other routes available to property managers. Finally, we will look at external enforcement of pet issues, including bylaws, and how those external resources can be used to assist condominium Boards and property managers in dealing with pet concerns.

  • Rapid Fire Engineering
  • Whether you are considering a new building or a major retrofit, there are some common concerns that consistently crop up. Join our three person moderated engineering panel of industry experts discussing performance and design issues for key building envelope components, including roofing (flat built-up and shingle), facades (windows, walls, cladding, etc.), parking garages and major structural renovations.

  • Future Trends - Thinking Differently
  • Frustrated with your water bill? Are you becoming worried that increasing costs are being downloaded? What about that lawn! Certainly, it can be much greener in the summer months?! And what’s with the changes in condo construction that developers seem to be introducing? Come listen and discuss all these issues and more! Topics will include proactive ways on saving water and costs, landscaping strategies on maintaining green and healthy lawns and tips on how to “green” your property and building. You will learn how Smart Home Technology is changing communication and who is living at your Condo. Learn how the Millennials live vs the Baby Boomer generation and how this is changing the future of condos. This session is applicable to all Owners, Board of Directors, and Property Managers at all levels.

  • Common Cents: Your Financial Health Check
  • Does your Condominium Corporation earn itself the checkmark of financial health? Is your condo financially healthy? How does your Corporation measure up to the industry or surrounding community? This session will take a multi-disciplined approach to navigating the financial statements and reserve fund to assess and understand the financial position of your Corporation. We will cover the telltale signs of a healthy versus unhealthy Corporation and the common pitfalls that impact the financial health of your Corporation, and how to avoid them. Topics will include proactive and reactive strategies to either maintain or recover the financial health of your Corporation, and guidelines to ensure their Condominium Corporation receives the financial health checkmark. This session is applicable to all Owners, Board of Directors, and Property Managers at all levels.
