This session will feature John Di Nino, former Board President of the condominium corporation at the time leading up to the tragedy, and Patrick Greco, the condominium corporation’s lawyer at the time. Together, they will provide a firsthand look at the difficult governance decisions, legal considerations, and community responsibilities involved when dealing with a deeply disgruntled owner.
The discussion will explore the delicate balance between listening to an individual owner’s concerns, following the Condominium Act and the corporation’s governing documents, protecting the broader ownership community, and managing the financial realities of repeated complaints, investigations, legal proceedings, and escalating behaviour.
Attendees will gain practical insight into recognizing red flags, documenting concerns, setting appropriate boundaries, supporting property management and board members, engaging legal counsel at the right time, and understanding when a situation may require a broader risk-management or safety response. This session is intended to help condo directors, managers, and professionals better understand how to serve the many while managing the one — and how today’s condo communities can prepare for the next chapter of governance with greater awareness, compassion, and protection.
